The thought of having to share your unique voice can be a scary one for some people. It was for me when I first started online. One of my biggest fears then, and even now, is becoming too repetitive and not being able to find new ways to talk using and repurposing content
I’m finding now though, that I’ll probably never run out of things to say about because there are always new ideas to be had. More likely, I’ll never have enough time to say everything I want to on the topic.
But that’s enough about me… I want to talk about you and your unique voice.
There are many things you can do to make sharing your message easier.
Here are 8 ways to make sharing your unique voice easier:
Tip #1 – Stay current in your niche
The one thing you don’t want is for your message to get stale. Things are always changing, and while your core message won’t change a whole lot, how you deliver it will need to adapt with the market you are serving.
Keep abreast of what’s happening right now, as well as any future trends you see coming. This will help establish your credibility and make it easier for people to see you as an expert source of information.
Tip #2 – Know your audience
The better you know your audience, the easier it will be for you to share your message with them. You will be able to create content that speaks to their wants and needs and solves their problems at the same time as you are sharing what makes you uniquely qualified to help them.
Tip #3 – Have a plan
Now that you are up to date on what’s happening in your market and you know what your audience wants and needs… it’s time to give it to them.
Creating a content plan allows you to share your message strategically across all the platforms you use including your blog, email lists, and social media. It also makes you look and feel more like an expert if your content has a purpose and a theme that’s consistent with your overall message.
Tip #4 – Have a content schedule
There’s nothing worse than finding a great content creator you love, with a message you can relate to only to have it go silent after only a few emails or blog posts. Even worse is the site where the author writes 2 or 3 posts in a row, and then doesn’t show up again for month or two. I’m guilty of this, and I know it sucks because I hate it when my favorite content creators do it.
So, in this installment of “Ruthie’s do as I say, not as I do” have a content schedule and stick to it! You also need to have a social media schedule and a guest schedule and stick to those too.
It’s the one reason why, even if nothing else gets done in a day, I make sure my newsletter gets out to you. I’ve set the expectations that you’re going to get a daily newsletter, so I have to make sure that happens.
Tip #5 – Embrace your uniqueness
One of the best things about being online is that you can be yourself. And yet, so many people hide behind a fake persona because they don’t think their best is good enough.
Be yourself, and you will find your audience because what makes you unique is what they are looking for.
Tip #6 – Change up your content once in awhile
A blog that has nothing but 1000-word articles can start to feel stale fairly quickly. The same goes for an email list that sends you nothing but promotion after promotion. There are tons of different types of content available, so change it up and give your audience something fresh. You can use audio, video, infographics, memes, and slideshows just to give you a few ideas.
Remember also that there are three main learning styles, so only catering to one is going to lose you two-thirds of your audience.
Tip #7 – Engagement is key
The key to getting your message heard is to talk WITH your audience, not just at them. Get involved in groups on social media and have actual conversations with people. It’s easy to fall into lecture mode when you’re doing newsletters and blogging, but that won’t get you far if you don’t have the engagement skills to go with it.
Tip # 8 – Above all, be consistent
This is huge and goes a long way to not only sharing your unique voice but building those customer relationships. Keeping the same theme, message, and tone of voice consistent across all your platforms goes a long way to establishing credibility and trust. Your audience needs to know what they can expect each time they come across a piece of your content, and it’s up to you to give it to them.
This is especially true if you use a ghostwriter or social media manager to create your content for you. Make sure you edit anything you hire out to include your own voice and your own energy.
It doesn’t have to be hard to share your unique voice. When you are passionate about your message and know your audience, you never have to worry about being boring or repetitive. Each piece of content you share puts a little bit more of you and your message out into the world. Whether it’s on your blog, in your newsletter, on someone else’s blog, or a social media site, your content is what will get people’s attention so that those who are searching for your message will find it.
